Grantmakers for Girls of Color (G4GC) and the Ms. Foundation hosted a funders briefing on Thursday, July 16, 2020, with Dr. Monique W. Morris in conversation with African American Policy Forum’s Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw. The webinar focused on why philanthropy must meet this moment to address anti-Black racism and other forms of injustice by increasing its investment in movements and organizations led by Black women and gender-expansive people, and that support Black girls and gender-expansive youth. Black girls and gender-expansive youth are suffering under the burden of racism, gender-based violence and state-sanctioned injustice, and yet largely remain out of sight in public discourses. As the nation rises up with outrage against police violence and systemic racism, we must also rise up against the harm and violence inflicted on Black girls and gender expansive youth.
In this moment and beyond, philanthropy must respond with urgency, invest with an intersectional lens and do more to help to transform the systems and narratives that impact the lives of Black girls, fem(mes) and gender expansive youth of color. Join us as we discuss how to radically transform racist systems so Black girls and girls and gender expansive youth of color can live with dignity, safety and power.
