About Us
Mission & Values
Grantmakers for Girls of Color (G4GC) is a philanthropic intermediary that follows the leadership of girls and gender-expansive youth of Color and invests in their liberation through the cultivation and mobilization of resources.
Our mission is to support transformative organizing work that dismantles systems of oppression in the United States and territories (Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam), centered on an infrastructure that reflects our values, a culture of partnership, healing, reciprocity, and love.
Our Theory of Impact
Love is the practice of caring for people. This care — giving and taking — has evolved with societal and cultural values. To support movements for justice for girls and gender-expansive youth of Color under 25, we view philanthropy through reciprocity, intersectionality, and cultural responsiveness.
Our G4GC Theory of Impact guides our work.
Our Values
Transformation
We seek to break molds and redefine or completely transform structures, systems, and mindsets.
Authenticity
We are bold, unapologetic, clear, and explicit in our messaging and actions.
Accountability
Everything we do, how we do it, and who we do it for is grounded in the aspirations, dreams, and demands of girls and gender-expansive youth of Color, as directly articulated by our constituency.
Inclusivity
We are a place of belonging, collaboration, and collective learning.
Urgency
We are goal-oriented, disciplined, and focused on achieving measurable change with, and on behalf of, girls and gender-expansive youth of Color. We do our work and advance our agenda with a sense of urgency and expedience.
Motivated by Love
We transform through the exercised power of love and healing. We center the well-being of ourselves, our colleagues, and our partners in the work, and we create spaces for healing, growth, and evolution.
Freedom and Creativity
We are nontraditional in our approach, unafraid of being different, and excited by the possibilities of what we are creating.
Our Impact
2023 G4GC Impact Report
In 2023, we expanded our work through youth engagement. We built out a Future Economy Lab and filmed our Pass The Mic Project with young people in our community. Additionally, we continued to elevate youth as decision-makers by creating a Holding A Sister Cohort with trans young people of Color and a New Songs Rising Fellowship for Indigenous girls and youth to help further our participatory grantmaking process.
2022 G4GC Executive Summary
In 2021 and 2022, we focused on strengthening our internal infrastructure, continuing to raise and distribute grants to the field, and growing our community of co-investors. We also launched our New Songs Rising Initiative and Holding a Sister Initiative.
2020 G4GC Impact Report
In our first year, the global pandemic and movement for racial justice shook the world — and placed a harsh spotlight on what we have always known: girls and gender-expansive youth of Color are facing multiple, intersecting systems of oppression. We launched Love Is Healing and the Black Girl Freedom Fund (along with the launch of the #1Billion4BlackGirls campaign) this year, motivated by the urgency to meet the moment.
